The building world descended on the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane on Friday 22 September for the bi-annual Master Builder Awards, celebrating the very best of the UK’s small to medium sized (SME) building companies.
Our host Nick Knowles
Our compere for the night was the host of DIY SOS, Nick Knowles, who announced winners across 12 categories. This included specialist projects like the Kitchen Project award, as well as the Apprentice of the Year award and the coveted Overall Master Builder of the Year award – where the lucky winners could win a new Isuzu Pick Up truck worth more than £37,000 (sponsored by Isuzu UK).
The festivities kicked off with a drinks reception, which was a chance for our Master Builder members to relax with their team and meet up with their peers from all regions of the UK, from the Western Isles of Scotland to the farthest depths of Cornwall.
With both drinks and conversations flowing, a three-course dinner was then served, as over 500 of the gathered builders eagerly awaited the awards ceremony, with musical entertainment provided by the award-winning impressionist and singer Jess Robinson.
Master Builder Awards finalists
The finalists in each category were all award winners in their own right, having qualified for the national awards by winning in their nominated category at the regional awards earlier this year.
The national awards were a fabulous way to round off a summer of success for each of the companies involved, with every one of them being chosen by our independent panel of judges for their exemplary work.
Celebrating excellence in building
As hard as it was to choose winners, the judging panel was able to select some outstanding projects that showcased not only quality building, but a dedication to hard work and the kind of professionalism that truly sets the FMB’s members apart.
From our Heavenly Builder coming to the rescue of a family in need of a helping hand to sustainable builds in Halifax, and even a historically accurate Roman villa – these were exceptional projects and people to be proud of.
We’re sharing the story behind each one over on our awards pages, so be sure to take a look!
The Overall Master Builder of the Year winner was announced as Vantage & Co Group Ltd for their Georgian restoration project in the Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, which the judges praised as ‘promoting a renaissance of our inner cities’. So let’s hope this year’s awards inspires an SME building renaissance in all reaches of the UK, in everything we do!
