1. Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

2. Upskill in retrofit
Sam was also invited to be part of the South London Partnerships new website that is highlighting the need for our industry to upskills on retrofit now! Its imperative that members learn the skills needed to retrofit at the renovation level as this is the future of SME construction.

3. Hardhat hangout
Soon the London Region will be hosting a frequent social event where members can attend, have a drink and network. This would be a very casual event that allows members the time to meet like minded people facing similar challenges they are - and who knows, you may even get a free beer.

4. Are you interested in being part of the Homebuilding and Renovating (HB&R) shows?
Benefits for your business include:
- Advice Centre: Those taking part in the Advice Centre have the opportunity to receive promotion on the show’s website in the buildup to the event, as well as being featured in FMB social media promotions. You are welcome to bring business cards to the Advice Centre, and to exchange contact details with prospective clients – there’s even a free lunch!
- Masterclass presentation: This public speaking opportunity puts you centre stage in the Masterclass Theatre where you can share your best practice advice with homeowners for finding a building contractor and working with them to deliver a successful project. The FMB can provide template slides covering all the key points, so all you need to do is a little customisation to make it your own. Then it’s time to take to the stage and talk about the benefits of hiring a vetted, inspected builder such as yourself to deliver valuable projects in the home or business space.
Available dates for London members include 27, 28 and 29 September at the Excel London and the 29 & 30 at Sandown Racecourse in Surrey.
5. AGMs
The FMB London AGM will take place virtually on 09 April 2024. All members based in London are eligible to put themselves forward to sit on the Board and to vote in advance via the online voting process, you will receive an email from Mi-Voice detailing how you can vote or apply in the next few weeks. If you would like to attend please register and we will provide a link for you to attend on the day.
We are a not-for-profit organisation that is run for members by members. Each year, UK areas hold their own AGM and on the 9 of April London will hold theirs.
6. What do Area Boards do?
Across the UK, the FMB’s Area Boards meet quarterly to discuss issues affecting the construction industry and to share their experiences. Area Boards also share feedback on the FMB’s activities and make recommendations on how the FMB can best support members.

Sam brings his vast experience working within the energy and finance sectors, most recently working for the Architecture Registration Board. At the FMB Sam’s responsibilities cover membership engagement, public affairs, media relations, events and governance but predominantly he is the representative for FMB members within the capital and greater London working with policy makers and stakeholders to ensure SME builders are represented.
