The Area Board meetings are a great example of the FMB being run by members for members. With Area Board membership comprised of up to 14 Master Builders from the region who’ve been elected by fellow Master Builders, the focus for these regular meetings is about discussing industry issues and representing the interests of the wider regional membership. A member from each Area Board also represents the region by joining the FMB’s National Board of Directors.
What was discussed at the Area Boards meetings?
At the end of November, both of the South Region area Boards (South West and Southern Counties) held their final meetings of the year and covered a wide range of topics. As well as hearing from new National President Chris Carr and FMB CEO Brian Berry, the Boards also had presentations from the CITB on how they can support FMB members across the region and from the National Self Build and Renovation Centre (NSBRC) about the centre and the events and shows they organise.
Discussions also took place regarding the state of trade for the region (and UK more generally), planning challenges and concerns around labour and material costs and supply. These invaluable insights help the FMB continue to be the voice for the SME builders and represent your issues to local, regional and national industry stakeholders and governments. Future Area Board meetings will also hear from industry and subject matter experts on these topics so keep an eye out for updates on them.
What’s next?
Planning is already underway for next year’s meetings and the AGMs will take place in the Spring giving the opportunity for more members to get involved and help shape the FMB’s work.
