On 6 September the FMB South West Area Board’s charity golf day, in aid of the Lighthouse Charity, took place at Thornbury Golf Club. Despite torrential rain the day before, and thunder and lightning stopping just 90 minutes before the first tee time, all the teams were able to enjoy an uninterrupted 18 holes of golf followed by a meal, raffle and prizegiving.
With support from headline sponsors Next Tech, refreshment sponsor TradePoint as well as Goody Bag sponsor, Brunel Bridging and prize sponsor Simplicity Workwear, 14 teams played on the Marlwood Course with funds raised to support FMB national charity, the Lighthouse Club.
Points mean prizes
Playing Stableford Rules, the winning team was from Devon-based Master Builder Dale Chadwick Carpentry Ltd, followed by Bristol-based CHI Homes team in second, with the All Build Developments Ltd team in third. Team prizes were presented by Andreas Koski from headline sponsor Next Tech and FMB National President, Chris Carr presented the individual prizes to the winners.
Important reason behind the day
Those present also heard from Ceryn Turner, the Lighthouse Club’s Regional Ambassador about the work they do to support our industry and why fundraising events like this are so important. She shared a statistic that, sadly, every working day in the UK and Ireland, two construction workers take their own lives. Via Lighthouse’s charitable services, those who need help and support are able to access it.
Fundraising success
With donations still coming in, we’re already at over £4,000 raised (over £1000 was raised on the day via a raffle and other donation opportunities). This is an incredible effort from all those involved and my thanks to those who took part, the sponsors, raffle prize providers and those who helped organise the day. It all meant the event was a huge success.
