About the Future Homes Hub

The Future Homes Hub can help you to navigate new environmental regulations without the headache. It brings together small and medium sized (SME) builders, government, and experts to create practical, real-world solutions for challenges like the Future Homes Standard and Biodiversity Net Gain .

  • The Benefit: You can replace guesswork with the Hub’s shared innovation and technical guidance.
  •  The Cost: Membership is free for house developers with an annual turnover of up to £15m.
  •  The Goal: To ensure SME builders have a direct voice in shaping the standards that define the future of the industry.

The shift to a low carbon and more climate change resilient future is reshaping every corner of our industry. Expectations around energy performance, carbon reduction, water efficiency, and biodiversity are rising rapidly, and the builders who thrive will be those who help shape this transition rather than simply respond to it. That is exactly why the Future Homes Hub exists - and why the voice of FMB members is so essential.

A collaborative approach to new standards

The Hub brings together the full breadth of the homebuilding ecosystem: SME builders, major developers, product manufacturers, government, environmental specialists, finance and utility providers. Our mission is to support the industry in delivering the environmental agenda including the Future Homes Standard, and the wider sustainability agenda in a way that is practical, coordinated, and grounded in real-world experience.

At a glance: What the Hub offers FMB members

  • Zero-cost membership: If you're an FMB member with a turnover up to £15m per annum, joining is completely free.
  • Technical clarity: Gain early insight and a direct voice in shaping the standards that define how we build homes in the future.
  • Practical support: Get the guidance and tools you need to navigate complex requirements like Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
  • Collaborative network: You can connect with other developers and a wider network of specialists to share ideas, rather than solving problems in isolation.

Tackling water and biodiversity challenges

The Hub’s work goes far beyond energy and carbon. Water efficiency is becoming a defining issue for the UK, with growing pressure on local water networks. Together with our members, we’re leading collaborative programmes to develop workable solutions, consistent guidance, and shared approaches that ensure new homes are resilient, efficient, and futureproof.

The same is true for biodiversity net gain (BNG). As this requirement becomes embedded in planning, builders need clarity, consistency, and practical tools to deliver it well. Through the Hub, members can receive help with how they can implement BNG, receive advice and seek advice from others who are working through these issues.

Stay ahead of the curve

The Future Homes Hub gives early insight, a direct voice in shaping standards, and access to the technical guidance and trials that will define how these changes are delivered. It replaces uncertainty with collaboration, and isolated problem-solving with shared innovation. The future of homebuilding will be shaped by those who choose to lead it. FMB members have always stood for quality and professionalism. The Future Homes Hub exists to build on that, for the way that future homes and communities will be developed.

Jargon buster:

  •  Future Homes Standard: This is the roadmap for our industry to deliver homes that are low-carbon and energy-efficient.
  •  Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG): A planning requirement that ensures new developments have a measurably positive impact on local nature.
  •  Water Efficiency: These are strategies to reduce pressure on local water networks through smarter home design.
  •  Climate Resilient: This means building homes that are prepared for a changing environment, including better temperature and water management.
