FMB Cymru have been invited to join a new Affordable Housing Taskforce Implementation Group, which was established by Jayne Bryant MS, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government.
This group is all about turning recommendations into real action, helping Wales deliver the social and affordable homes that our communities urgently need. Read the Cabinet Secretary’s statement announcing the group here.
But what does this mean for you, our members?
Ensuring that local builders are heard
Too often, housing policy conversations are dominated by big developers. Our seat at the table means that local, small and medium-sized (SME) builders won’t be overlooked. We're there to represent your interests, raising the challenges you face and promoting the value you bring to your communities and to the Welsh economy.
Supporting more local work opportunities
The group’s work is focused on finding practical solutions to speed up and scale up affordable housing delivery. That could mean:
- More work opportunities for local builders through social housing projects.
- Breaking down barriers that prevent SMEs from entering the house building market or scale up their work.
- Highlighting the importance of skills and training to future-proof the industry’s workforce.
Influencing how homes are built in Wales
From planning to procurement to sustainability, every part of the process will be discussed. By being part of this group, the FMB is making sure that:
- Building standards are practical and achievable.
- Local firms have a fair shot at being involved in building new homes.
- Quality and craftsmanship are at the heart of new developments.
A collective effort
We’ll be working alongside local government, housing associations, utility providers, planning experts and others. It’s a real chance to collaborate across the sector and make sure change works for everyone, including small builders like you.
Have Your Say
As we take part in this important work, we want to hear from you. What’s getting in the way of you delivering more homes? What changes would help you grow your business and support your community? Your feedback will help shape our contributions.
