With Plaid Cymru's historic victory marking a major shift in Wales's political landscape, FMB Cymru has urged the incoming administration to work more closely with the construction sector to tackle long-standing challenges around skills, investment and delivery.
In Wales, 99% of construction firms are small, local businesses, employing people close to where they live and keeping investment circulating in local economies.
Ifan Glyn, FMB Cymru Director, said:
"Last week's Senedd election marks a major shift in Wales's political landscape, and I congratulate Plaid Cymru on their victory. Voters have sent a clear message - they do not just want change, they want change they can feel in their everyday lives.
"Investing in construction is one of the most direct ways to deliver that ambition. In Wales, 99% of construction firms are small, local businesses, employing people close to where they live and keeping investment circulating in local economies.
"The sector provides well-paid jobs, supports skills development and social mobility, and is essential to delivering the homes, schools, hospitals and infrastructure that we need.
"With an expanded Senedd, there is an opportunity for Government to work more closely with industries like ours to tackle long-standing challenges around skills, investment and delivery. Backing builders is not just good for the sector — it is central to economic growth and community resilience across Wales."
